. Each day in and around Houston, people are injured -- many killed -- in traffic collisions, industrial accidents, home mishaps and other misfortunes. Almost always the tragedy was foreseeable, with each incident telling the story of how it could have been prevented. The spectacular catastrophes -- fiery explosions, gruesome wrecks, multiple injuries and fatalities -- may make the front page of the Chronicle or garner 30 seconds as a TV news lead item. But most "routine" accidents, and virtually all information about prevention, are simply not very "newsworthy." HoustonSafety.com is intended as a web site where safety and prevention ARE the news. This is an online publication of Safety Advantage, a Houston-based safety consulting, training and services company. Our mission is to nurture this site into a clearinghouse and permanent archive for local safety-related information. Occupational safety and health are a primary focus, with HoustonSafety.com serving as a local news and information exchange for safety directors, supervisors and employees. At the same time, we want to promote safe and healthy lifestyles for everyone in Houston, Harris County, South Texas -- everywhere! We want to raise general safety awareness as much as we can. One special focus is promoting safety to young people. Children and adolescents are our community's most precious resource. Accidents are the leading cause of death, disability and injury in these age groups. HoustonSafety.com is committed to youth safety education and involvement. NOW is the time to encourage common sense safety awareness in this next generation of the workforce! We will constantly strive to involve young people and pursue issues such as teen driver safety and preventing accidents in the after-school workplace. HoustonSafety.com will share information with and support others who work in safety-related fields. Home and family safety will be an ongoing priority. If you have news, information, suggestions or comments for HoustonSafety.com, please e-mail or phone us. Your interest and support will always be sincerely appreciated. ________________________________________________________________ Phone: 713-977-5690 800-960-1239 Fax: 713-977-5693
